Catherine Sartain was born and reared in Gainesville, Georgia. She attended North Hall High School and was a proud member of the “Marching Trojans,” North Hall’s Marching Band. Catherine attended University of North Georgia earning her degree in Political Science with a concentration in Pre-Law in 2018. While in college, Catherine was an active member of the Political Science Student Association and served as the Secretary for two years. Catherine was the Editor of the University of North Georgia Campus Voter’s Guide, which involved the education of students regarding the background and history of candidates for upcoming state elections. Catherine was inducted into the esteemed Phi Sigma Alpha, National Political Science Honor Society. During college, Catherine also interned for the Hall County State Solicitor’s Office working with the Victim Assistance Program.
Catherine attended law school at the University of Georgia School of Law earning her Juris Doctor decree in 2021. While in law school, Catherine served on the Board of the Family Law Society. She volunteered and assisted in coordinating the Athens Peer Court Initiative. Catherine is most proud of her work in establishing a program known as “Street Law,” which advances justice through classroom and community education programs that empower people with the legal and civic knowledge, skills, and confidence to bring about positive change for themselves and others.
Catherine was a student intern at the Wilbanks CEASE (Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation) Clinic and worked specifically on a case that went before the Georgia Supreme Court on an interlocutory appeal, Harvey et al., v. Merchan, No. S21A0143, June 21, 2021. Catherine also served as a campus representative for Lexis Nexis Advance Research. After becoming a standout for her stellar research skills, she began conducting training seminars for law students. During law school, Catherine interned every Summer and every Christmas Break at Candace M. Williams, Family Law where she is now an Associate Attorney.
Catherine is now a third generation practicing attorney. She is the daughter of Judy Davenport Sartain, a well-respected family law attorney in North Georgia. Her Father, Larry O. Sartain, is a well-established practicing attorney in Gainesville, Georgia. Her late Step-Father, Mr. Mike Hearn was one of her leading champions and shared her love for the Georgia Bulldogs. Catherine has four proud siblings, Jessica, Sam, Hannah, and Stephen. She is recently engaged to be married to Jarod Maddox, also a Hall County native. Catherine is proud to continue her family’s law legacy by returning to practice law in her hometown of Gainesville, Georgia to serve and reinvest in her community. In her free time, Catherine enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and her menagerie of rescue cats and dogs.
